ABOUT ME!

Hi. Hey. Hello.

I'm Alexis Torres, and I'm currently a junior  at East Carolina University. I'm majoring in elementary education with a concentration in general science. I'm involved with multiple organizations including, Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity and Kappa Delta Pi Education Honors Society. I work for ECU in the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities as an office assistant. I love East Carolina and I'm proud to be a part of Pirate Nation.

I'm from Northern Virginia, more specifically Fairfax County. A fun fact about Fairfax County is it has been listed as one of the top ten best counties in America.  I went to Lake Braddock Secondary School. I was involved in a wide variety of extracurricular. Some of my favorites were: YoungLife,  Lacrosse, and Chorus. I have a younger brother Garrett, who is 12 years old and he's in 6th grade. I also have 2 cats, Pax and Nellie, and I absolutely love them.  I really love where I grew up, but I don't necessarily think I want to go back after I graduate, even though I'm sure my parents would love that.

As I stated above, I'm an elementary education major with a concentration in general science. When I first came to ECU I started out as an athletic training major, but after just one semester I realized that wasn't the right path for me. I enjoyed the science part of athletic training and I always liked science in school, so I knew I wanted part of that and that's why I chose science as my concentration. I think the reason I decided on elementary education is because I truly love working with children. In the summers I work at a day camp with children from ages 5-13. Being a teacher to me is so much more than just teaching children facts; it's about being a positive role model for kids and helping them prepare for their futures, and that's why I think being a teacher is the prefect profession for me.
